Adobe Taking On Microsoft?
The world of business computing may be about to turn upside down.
According to this Wired article, Adobe may be in the process of taking on Microsoft in the Office Suite arena. Microsoft, the maker of Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Powerpoint, depends on the Office Suite as its main source of revenue given their product’s extensive rooting into the world’s business computers.

De-Clutter Your Life
I was raised by a packrat. Seriously. In my house opening the freezer door would result in an avalanche and a whimsical pirouette would send stacks of papers flying in all directions. As a result I grew into a very orderly adult–until I had a baby. Now I’m sitting at a desk with high rises of books and bills and just enough room to wedge my laptop in between. And I hate it.

I Wish...
Office desks are a luxury in the land of cubicles.
…that I had one of those “real” office desks at work instead of this cubicle/modular thing I have now. It just doesn’t have a whole lot of storage space. The built-in storage in this thing is pathetic - your typical three-drawer filing-cabinet on my left and behind me, there is a larger, rectangular two drawer filing cabinet. It just isn’t enough.

Asian Port Congestion
Good tips on managing shipping with the increasing traffic congestion at Asian ports.
Shanghai has been a difficult origin for sometime now, but manageable. If you use allocated carriers for Shanghai and are having problems try opening it up to all your carriers. Spreading the volume around to your carrier base will reduces the risk of equipment availability and capacity constraints. While it may increase your overall landed costs from Shanghai, the increases should be negligible and there’s no accounting for peace of mind.

Goodbye Wall Street Journal
How will New Corp's acquisition of The Wall Street Journal change business news?
I was never a big fan of the Wall Street Journal because of their highly partisan editorial pages but I still read it for the business news (and no, I don’t read Playboy for its articles). Then just about 2003, I completely gave up paper versions of newspapers and since then get all my news from a variety of online resources. In other words, I never felt the need to visit the WSJ website.

Think Green For Back To School
Buy recycled paper from Office Max and other retail stores.
When buying paper goods, always look for recycled notebooks with a high post-consumer waste percentage. For school-aged kids, there is recycled construction paper, and Mead makes recycled-content spiral notebooks, as does Ampad Office Max and Office Depot sell recycled printer paper, and New Leaf Paper company sells a wide variety of recycled printer and notebook paper. For grown-up notebook junkies (like myself) Boulder, Colorado stationary company Vickerey has several gorgeous notebooks made of recycled or tree-free paper. 3-M makes a variety of recycled Post-Its and Rebinder makes recycled binders.
