Battle Of The Virtual Offices
A look at new competition to Microsoft OfficeBut there is a catch, it’s called “cost of sale.” Essentially, because the SMB market can include SoHO (small office, home office) or single proprietors, this market is not only very cost conscious, but the sale has to essentailly be a “no touch” sale, in other words, a very low cost sales process. The cost of acquiring customers also has to be low.

HP Reveals Mini Wireless Storage Chip
According to the article, "the Memory Spot chip is roughly the size of a grain of rice with a built-in antenna and is based on CMOs -- a widely used, low-power integrated circuit design. The chips could be embedded in a sheet of paper or stuck to any surface, and eventually could be available in a booklet as self-adhesive dots, according to the company. The chip has a 10 megabits-per-second data transfer rate -- which HP says is 10 times faster than Bluetooth wireless technology and comparable to WiFi speeds. Storage capacity ranges from 256 kilobits to 4 megabits in working prototypes, which HP says enables it to store a very short video clip, several images or dozens of pages of text. Future versions could have larger capacities."

Really Need A Flat Screen HDTV?
The virtuous cycle of electronics upgrades.
The motives behind this change of technology are dubious. TV stations want it to be able to make more money with all kinds of new digital and interactive services, governments want it because it frees up frequencies (thus enabling them to make more money for licences) and businesses selling TVs and electronics want it because they will make a lot of money selling all the new appliances which will be needed.

Support Net Neutrality
It also means that nonprofit organizations, small business owners and regular individual Americans who cannot afford to or don’t want to pay extra will have their sites run slower and, as a result, will get less traffic.

Lessons From Home Remodeling
Learning from home remodeling and business software experiences.
Greg Young just wrote about the impedance mismatch between agile development and the fixed price contract mindset our clients are used to. Businesses like to allocate a chunk of money to a shiny package, but we've realized that good business software solutions usually don't come in shiny packages. We're not alone in this problem, though.
